Grade 3 with PE teacher, Mr. Lajoie, showing thier winter kids gear.

We're thrilled to announce that WES has joined the non-competitive track for Winter Kids this year! For those unfamiliar, Winter Kids is a Maine-based program dedicated to getting children outside and active during the winter months, helping them build healthy habits while discovering the joy of our beautiful Maine winters.

This marks the beginning of an exciting 4-week journey where our students will explore winter wellness through physical activity, outdoor adventure, and developing a lifelong love for the season that makes Maine special.

Week One: Physical Activity & Fitness Foundations

We've hit the ground running—or should we say stretching! This week's focus was all about understanding our bodies and preparing them for winter activities. In gym class, students completed a flexibility assessment and learned proper stretching techniques to keep their muscles healthy and prevent injuries during winter fun.

Every student received their own stopwatch this week, which they'll use to track their physical activities and set personal goals- this program is all about personal growth and enjoying the process!

We're so excited to help our students stay active, build confidence, and embrace everything that makes Maine winters wonderful. Stay tuned for weekly updates as we explore new winter activities together!
